DyLynn's House is a Certified Family Child Care Home. The State of Oregon's Child Care Division as well as the Multnomah County Health Department provide annual check-in and certification visits. The facility is licensed for a total of 6 children per day. The usual number varies from 2-4 until the children are over the age of 2 years. The State's requirement for children under 2 years is a 1:4 adult to child ratio. Developmental phases, health and well-being, and my energy level also determine the daily ratios within the State's guidelines!
The small groups of families that share DyLynn's House, begin as a same-age cohorts. Every three years or so, we begin with a grouping of children who will stay together in my care until they transition to preschool. Many "alumni" families continue to use short-term care when hours are available - it is nice to have a blended age group from time to time. The older children enjoy getting to know the new babies and the toddlers love to tag along with the "big kids."
I believe small groups provide opportunities for deeper and more involved relationships among the children, their families and their peers. Secure and trusting communities develop which honor each child's individuality as well as respect the diversity among us. These communities can provide a rich source of support and friendship for children and adults alike. Annual home visits further assist in developing my partnership with parents and other family members.
Through a thoughtfully planned physical space and natural materials, DyLynn's House provides an environment which fosters in children curiosity, excitement, imagination, a sense of wonder, autonomy, and a love of learning. Children naturally develop a sense of themselves as lovable, loving, empathetic people and empowers them to be capable and community oriented. By providing wholesome, organic foods, a slow paced and home-like environment, my program contributes to the overall health and well-being of each child.
